A little bit about me…

My name is Marla and I am extremely excited to announce that I have recently joined the Racewear Carousel team. I am going to be sharing some snippets of my sewing journey. Dreaming of outfits and dressing up for the races is something that I have plenty of passion about. I’ll be contributing a regular monthly post – What Marla Made. Hopefully I can provide some inspiration for you to add a little of your own flair into your fashions on the field outfits.

How I got here… my family are heavily involved in horse racing.  So naturally I tend to spend a lot of time at the track. I have the ever-so-slightly large wardrobe full of racewear to prove it. My partner is a Brisbane-based jockey and I am the proud new owner of a very cute colt that we have recently bred to race. I discovered the magic of millinery while I was working in racing. Night school was the next step to a deep love of sewing. So much so that a few years ago, I started my own limited edition ready to wear racewear label – MARLA.
A few of my racing related favourite things:

  • Champagne: Grant Burge
  • Favourite day of spring carnival: Oaks Day – I love that it’s both feminine and fun
  • Current colour crush: yellow – the brighter the better
  • Racehorse: Winx – she’s a superstar
  • Millinery style: beautifully made boaters

What I know about race wear… I love it when I make an outfit with a little magic in it. The track is one of the last places that ladies can truly show their style and dress up. Traditional, timeless and elegant – in a nutshell that is everything that racewear should be. Join me on my journey to create classically beautiful clothing. Watch while I dream up designs, share tips and tricks and reveal some of my behind the scenes.

Marla xx
