We are loving the off the shoulder trend at the moment especially when it is paired with beautiful bell sleeves. As with any trend there is a time and place for when it’s suitable to wear (boyfriend jeans would be a no-no for a business interview). The races is traditionally a ‘no strapless’ zone but we think this look can be elegant if it’s done the right way. Off the shoulder tops and dresses won’t suit all body types so our advice is stick to a cut that has more fabric up top and leaves a little to the imagination. Less skin is definitely more when it comes to wearing this trend for your next race day.

Our tips to tweak this trend for the track

-no backless

-minimal cleavage, opt for something that sits up high on your shoulders/chest

-find one with sleeves so you don’t reveal too much skin (and you’ll keep warm)

-cut outs are a good way to work up to the full off the shoulder look

-go for a longer dress length (short hems will look like a nightclub outfit)

-use a quality push up strapless bra not a bandeau (it will cut you off and squish you – not flattering)

-find a loose fitting style rather than one made of bodycon material

-crop styles are great with high waisted skirts but not if they show skin around your waist

NO – save these for a date night or drinks with the girls
