Although the skies threatened to rain most of the day the clouds parted sporadically with fleeting rays of sun at the Murray Bridge Racecourse on the 12th of October 2016.
There is usually a big fashion turn out at the Murray Bridge Gold Cup but this year there were only just enough entrants to cover the length of the stage. While out and about there were some colourful and striking outfits from the ladies and the lads who attended.
Bec Butcher, from Adelaide, is a regular at the races and enjoys entering FOTF at these smaller clubs. Her Peter Pilotto dress arrived in the post the day before and because of the colouring she chose to wear it backwards…. Genius! Two dresses for the price of one! I love this idea and the zip can be worn wherever it’s comfortable. Bec complimented her outfit with cream accessories and a stunning Jill and Jack floral headpiece.
It was nice to see a dapper gent wearing a hat to the races for both style and sun protection. Isaac wore a Peter Shearer suit with Air Flex shoes, Van Heusen shirt (David Jones), Oakley sunglasses and eye catching Happy Feet socks.
Marie and Dana love attending the races and putting on a bet or two. Marie won the best Millinery award in her MMM Designs headpiece which complimented her Mackenzie Mode dress and Louboutin shoes (which she saved only for the stage). Dana’s outfit was made up of vintage items from her wardrobe.
Fashion at the Races judge, and past The Block contestant, Michelle Fogdon was wearing a flattering pair of Seed pants, a pretty floral Witchery blouse and matching navy headpiece from Olga Berg. This look was perfect for a relaxed day at the races. Paired with tan accessories, Urban Sole shoes and a leather cluctch, she looked comfortable and classy. It was great to see Michelle didn’t forget the little details with her navy pedicure and Oshka Black bangles.
Horse owner Paul was sporting a very brightly coloured pocket square which from a distance matched perfectly with his Trenery shirt. If you look a little closer you can see it was actually a napkin from his table. The rest of his outfit was from Rodd and Gunn which he says is a great staple for any bloke’s wardrobe.
Shannen and her friend Jaimee stood out as they waited trackside for the Fashion at the Races event to begin. Shannen’s gold Asilio top was carefully matched to her Locopa crown. Salvatore heels, Witchery bag, premonition skirt and Myer gloves were the finishing touches to the outfit. Although she was too young to enter, Jaimee’s mum is a trainer so she is a regular to the racetrack. It was great to see a young lady dressed well and her monochrome Caroline Morgan dress and Simply By Lou Lou millinery were a great choice.
I was lucky enough to win best dressed in my bright bell sleeve dress, white boater, Witchery bag and Jo Mercer heels. Although it’s hard to see I also wore a beautiful white vintage brooch and added some tassels to the bottom of the dress (literally half an hour before I left). My lovely friend Bec was lucky enough to come runner up!
