julie herbert millinery

Describe your style in 3 words or less?
Improvised, outgoing, abstract

What are your achievements as a business?
I think for a milliner i have grown in building techniques the past couple of years, for the past 4 years i have came runner up for bridal accessories for The Australian Bridal Industry Academy for NSW 2 years in a row and have too had my headpieces on runway last year at the Australian Bridal Fashion Week in Sydney. I have focused mostly on bridal but too am now getting back to working on race pieces again.

Where do you get inspiration?
Mostly i just have a think about colours and styles in clothing and the creativity just flows that way. When i see a bridal dress or race dress from a customer i usually just get the inspiration from looking at it.

What are your favourite social media accounts that you follow?
I do like Milliner Mates on Facebook as it’s great to connect with other milliners and not be competitive and help each other with tips.
I’m a big fan of instagram so I usually follow anything on that but seeing images is what i like.

What do you love about millinery?
I love that I’m passionate about getting millinery out there again as in the old days everyone wore hats and it is so sad how the times have changed so its great that me and my other millinery friends and all i should say is bringing back the millinery styles. I love being creative and have a family who is very crafty.

What’s an unknown fact about yourself?
I work on my millinery only in the day time at the moment as I have a cornea transplant in my right eye but very excited to say my sight is now back, I haven’t had any vision at all since the transplant in 2009 so it’s a huge thing for me so I can get back to working after my main job in the evenings.

What can your customers expect if they purchase from you?
They can expect great service and styles that suit them, listening to the customer’s needs is a priority for me.
