Where do you get inspiration from?
As a hat designer , I like to be adventurous with a diverse range of materials and elements, and love experimenting with different fabrics and organic materials to create unique and interesting millinery pieces. I have a background in structural design obtaining a Masters degree in Ergonomics which has a strong engineering focus which brings a unique flare to my signature designs especially with my custom made one of a kind millinery blocks which I design and have made locally . I like to push the boundaries and create very unique and interesting headpieces that have a 3 dimensional look.
What are your favourite social media accounts that you follow?
The pages I love are – Racewear Carousel , hatacademy, Zuhairmuradoffical, myer, dior, couturenotebook, vogueaustralia, Elie Saab world, Millinery Australia, Carla Zampatti etc
What do you love about millinery?
Millinery for me is a passion I think about it 24/7. I discovered this wonderful world of hat making after many years of university study and fell in love with this masterful art. Hat making gives me a sense of freedom, an escape from the everyday world where I can channel my creative energy through my hands to design and create custom-made unique headpieces for people to wear which gives me tremendous joy.
What’s an unknown fact about yourself?
I am also a Registered Nurse and have worked in many rural and remote communities with the Royal Flying surgeon. I have worked for most of my nursing career in the operating Theatres and was in charge of the Brain and spinal Theatre for some years at the Townsville Hospital prior to becoming a milliner. I have also played representative Polox for many years, and even played at the World Cup in Warwick and strapped for the international Irish team which was lots of fun.
What can your customers expect if they purchase from you?
I believe that all people should have an opportunity to wear a custom made millinery piece, and I cater to all budgets and work with each and every customer to tailor make a bespoke headpiece to suit them and their special occasion. I will always be prompt to answer any questions the customer may have, and like to keep them informed of my progress with their special creation, and 100% satisfaction is always guaranteed with my work.

Ladies can contact me via my website www.hatsbyzarbella.com through the contact page with an enquiry or by email firstname.lastname@example.org , private message on my facebook page Hats by Zarbella or mobile phone 0409836415. I usually require a minimum of 6 weeks for custom orders, however depending on my workload I can sometimes arrange a custom order on short notice. I can also express post to anywhere in Australia and take private booking appointment in my studio on the weekends where store clients are able to personally select styling features and trims to customise their hat and make it truly their own. I also offer a styling service where I can assist the ladies to bring their look together from head to toe.
What are your future business plans?
Not a hundred percent sure as it has been a whirlwind ride over the last three years since I started my label and I have been juggling full-time work, a family and my Millinery business. In the near future I would love to expand my business so I can release a ready to wear Spring / Summer and Autumn/Winter collection each year, and would love to collaborate with a fashion designer or retailer to sell a ready to wear range. I feel it is very important to continually upgrade my skills learning new and innovative millinery techniques to further my repertoire.
