In preparation for the Mount Gambier Gold Cup we have found some great places in the South East of SA to buy your last minute country racing outfits and accessories. We are starting to see less of our beloved sunshine and more much needed rain, but don’t let the cool weather dampen your style for the races. Take some tips from these beautifully styled photos by Louise Agnew, Mink for Hair and Vanity Bar and Body Lounge.
We asked Louise Agnew (photographer) what the inspiration was behind the photo shoot and she said, “Jess, Mel and I are often talking about what we could create together and loved the idea of bringing a fresh new look to the races in the South East. Ideas can often get stale in the country and we wanted to create an editorial look to showcase the biggest race meet in our town!”
These striking pictures convey everything about country racing in autumn from the clothing selection to the scenery. Modern, classy and just the right about of attitude. We love this collaboration and congratulate the team on their creative efforts! Let’s take a closer look and highlight some of their styling ideas for the races…
Dark lips work so well in the cooler months and they are everywhere this season. To get the gothic glamour look tone down your colour and opt for a moody berry or rich purple. Be sure to use a lip pencil for a crisp edge and longer lasting colour. For maximum pout punch keep the rest of your make up fresh and minimal so the focus stays on your lips. Define your eyes or your lips – heavy make up on both will make you look over done for the races so keep it fresh with a pop of colour.
For country racing lovers there often isn’t much choice when it comes to clothing labels and boutiques so sourcing a staple like this white shirt from K-Mart means it can be a thrifty option that will works with any outfit.
The felt hat worn by Caitlin suits the season and the deep green colour ties in perfectly with her Kookai skirt. Versatile hats, like this cool yet casual boater, can be worn with a dressy outfit to any kind of race meet. Pants are rarely seen on ladies for the races, especially Fashions on the Field winners (see our post “Winner wears the pants”). Often pants are a risky but very comfortable option for those wanting to wear something a little different than a dress or skirt. Tiana is wearing a culotte jumpsuit which gives a feminine feel by disguising itself as an a-line dress. The little black shirt is perfect way to cover up for the cooler days and makes a shoe string or strapless jumpsuit more conservative and racewear appropriate.
Going to the races is great opportunity for the boys to get dressed up too. Sourcing a good quality suit is key and navy, as worn by Tom, is a versatile option. A slim, not skinny, fitting suit is flattering for most body shapes and never goes out of style.
