My name is Cobie, and I’m a self-confessed racing fashion addict! I’ve recently come on board with Racewear Carousel to share my experiences as a passionate Fashions on the Field competitor and racing style lover.
I started my Fashion Fillies Instagram account earlier this year as a way to keep track of racewear inspo for my own outfit planning, but it’s also grown into a great platform for interacting with other likeminded ladies. My favourite feature of Fashion Fillies is Millinery Monday – I often spend days trying to decide which beautiful headpieces to showcase each week!
I live in a small country town in the Southern Highlands of NSW, and I’m currently in my final year of studying Physiotherapy at university. I have to admit to having champagne tastes on a beer budget – completing a Masters degree and spending months away on clinical placement doesn’t leave much time for holding down a full-time job, so I’ve become quite adept at bargain hunting and putting outfits together on a broke student’s budget!
I entered my first Fashions on the Field competition at our local picnic races in 2012, wearing a cocktail dress and a chain-store fascinator – clearly I didn’t win a prize that day! I’ve since learned a whole lot more about appropriate racewear, and have won numerous sashes in Ladies, Couples and Millinery categories.
My love of Fashions on the Field came about as a combination of two of my passions – horses and fashion. I’ve been involved with horses for my entire life, and have worked in the racing industry and performance horse industry both in Australia and the USA. I’ve also taken on a number of retired racehorses and retrained them for new careers as show and performance horses. In my very limited spare time, I run my own small business providing show preparation and grooming services for show horses – which is not too different from getting myself ready for FOTF!
I’m really excited to be on board with Racewear Carousel – I’ll be writing about my FOTF journey and sharing some of my styling tips and racewear inspiration. I’m always open to suggestions about topics you’d like to read about, so feel free to head over to Fashion Fillies on Instagram and drop me a line!
